How to Create Equity within the Yoga Community

by Bibigul Amirova

In our latest series of interviews with Iyengar yoga teachers and practitioners, I sit down with Siobhan Sloan-Seale to discuss her yoga journey.

Siobhan is an Iyengar yoga teacher who identifies as a mixed-race black intersectional feminist and antiracist. She aims to create equity and build community within the community that she is a part of. Siobhan discusses how the pandemic has exposed a lot of vulnerabilities in our society and who the more vulnerable people are. She teaches a BIPOC yoga class, cultivating a safe space for people of color to come together, and in the interview addresses inequalities and systemic racism within the yoga community.
