Corinne Skrobot 1961-2026

Corinne Skrobot

Corinne Skrobot, a dedicated Iyengar yoga student and teacher, an active member of our community, and a generous friend, passed away in the early hours of Friday March 20th at her home in Powell River. She was a person of extraordinary energy and determination. As a young adult, she turned a casual lawn-cutting job into a large landscaping company. She played rugby at the highest level and was on Team Canada in 1991 when they competed at the World Cup for the first time.

After attending the University of Alberta, she became a physiotherapist. In her early forties, she tried her first Iyengar yoga class and decided on the spot that she wanted to become a teacher. She forged ahead with the years of study and training required and then taught in Vancouver for nearly two decades while continuing her physio work.

Corinne was always generous with her time and skills. She served as President of our association for a few years and was tearful when she announced her decision to leave the position because of her upcoming move to Powell River. When health challenges required her to return to Vancouver regularly, she travelled between the two places while keeping up her many social connections, yoga, and whatever work was possible, including tending a serious-sized vegetable garden. Her preferred mode of transport had always been cycling, and though she did less of this in the last few years, she found other ways to be outdoors, often in the forests of Vancouver’s North Shore.

Corinne’s dedication to yoga was inspirational. Even as her health declined, she made sure to get to as many workshops, retreats or gatherings as she could, often carting a large load of props with her. Clear eyed and courageous, she faced the end of her life bravely, making sure that all things were in order and even donated her library of yoga books to teachers and students in our community so that others would have the opportunity to learn.

Corinne was a kind and loving person who will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all of us who knew her. May she rest in peace.
