Squats and Lunges for Hips with Lucy Yamamoto

Squats and lunges are fundamental actions—in sports, in rehab, in daily life. They train the hip joint to be mobile and stable. If you do yoga, you’re in luck. You can practice these actions in basic asana.
In this workshop, we’ll target poses related to squats and lunges (think Utkatasana and Virabhadrasana I). We’ll work on both range of motion and on strength, primarily in neutral orientation. Expect a hip-oriented sequence, ending with some releasing backbends and restoratives.

This workshop is part of my “Monthly Iyengar Yoga Tune-Up” series at Kitsilano Community Centre. Participants should have approximately one year of yoga experience and no major injuries. Props are available but, if possible, please bring your own mat, strap, blanket(s), and any particular items that you might need.
