Strong Hips Workshop with Luci Yamamoto

It’s one thing to move your body with no “load.” But what happens if you bear weight on that body part? This question is important regarding hip actions since humans are bipedal. If your hip mobility is fine while sitting, what happens when you stand?
In this workshop we’ll explore hip actions—flexion and extension, internal and external rotation. We’ll start with minimal or no load, in seated and supine poses. We’ll then do standing poses, such as Virabhadrasana (Warrior poses) and Ardha Chandrasana (Half Moon pose), which apply target actions.
Strong hips are essential not only for yoga asana, but for general movement. All levels are welcome. And, whatever your level, you can benefit from hip work.

This workshop is part of my “Monthly Iyengar Yoga Tune-Up” series at Kitsilano Community Centre. Participants should have approximately one year of yoga experience and no major injuries. Props are available but, if possible, please bring your own mat and any other items that you might need.
