Neck and Shoulder Opening Workshop with Luci Yamamoto

As cerebral creatures, humans commonly hold tension near the head—in the neck and shoulders. Our modern lifestyle, constantly staring at digital devices, exacerbates the problem. Let’s counter these tendencies with yoga.
In this workshop, we’ll do a variety of poses to address tight or weak neck and shoulder muscles. Expect to work various actions, such as spinal extension and flexion, internal and external shoulder rotation. We’ll end the class with restorative poses or, for those who practice inversions, Sirsasana (Headstand) and Sarvangasana (Shoulderstand).
To release soft-tissue tension, we’ll use massage balls. Please bring a tennis, lacrosse, or dedicated massage ball.

This workshop is part of my “Monthly Iyengar Yoga Tune-Up” series at Kitsilano Community Centre. Participants should have approximately one year of yoga experience and no major injuries. Props are available but, if possible, please bring your own mat, strap, blanket(s), and any particular items that you might need.
